Roger Sadowsky answers: I think there is general consensus among most bass builders that neck-through basses do have more sustain, which perhaps makes them a good choice for some fingerstyle players. On the other hand, bolt-on's have more punch and snap, which makes them preferred for funk and slap styles. It is not a question of which is better -- they are different. And the player, depending on his playing style and the sound he has in his head, may tend to prefer one construction style over the other.
