Since I'm not very interested in playing guitar, and if by chops you not only mean technique, but musicianship, tone, taste, feel, etc... I'd choose Garry Tallent, Willie Weeks and James Jamerson.

just watching an old Satriani DVD. I know it's cliche, but he's great, and Stu Hamm holds his own on that stage, both with playing and energy, so they're my choices. Even though I play a very different style to Stu Hamm, I've always greatly admired his playing.
