31  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: Intonation on: September 09, 2011, 11:41:35 PM
HI

Gotta lose those flats!!

LOL

Rob

Yeah, but then my Sadowsky bass would sound like what everyone else thinks it should sound like.  Grin
B.
PS: In the meantime, I'd like to learn something here. This is the right place for that.
32  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Intonation on: September 08, 2011, 09:25:49 PM
Everyone has varying opinions about proper method for intoning a string. Fretted 12th fret note / open string. Fretted 12th fret note / 12th fret harmonic. Both methods SHOULD be in sync - but not always possible, for some reason. Now moving from string to string with harmonics could make previous individual string intonation questionable. It drives me crazy because flats are even more difficult than rounds to set. I would appreciate some opinions on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Sadowsky basses sound incredible in the studio. The last CD I worked on I pretty much used my Metro for the whole session. It was SO easy to get a great tone, and I was plugged direct into the board. We were jammin between some takes and it was recorded. Here is a little snip-it of that Metro. Again, direct into the board and no effects.

It was a MV4 that I was using.

Here is another snip-it using my NYC Standard Fretless.

Great tones, playing, & thanks for the clips. Very impressive recordings.

Build sound clip: Steely Dan "Babylon Sisters" overdub - 2ND TAKE. Hopefully I nailed the pitch this time.  Grin  The life of an overdub artist is not easy.   Wink

Here's a link to my Youtube channel. Some of the overdubs have been blocked on copyright grounds.  I'll add more clips of my Sadowsky build from time to time. The still photo of the bass shown indicates the one used for the clip. These aren't videos at present. Only audio. (I'm not much to look at anyway).  Grin

Edit: Hosting site folder of the Eagles overdubs I just did. Not as good audio as what I get on YouTube but it's OK for iPod listening I guess. I've noted the bass settings for each song.

Thought I'd post another clip of my build w/flats since it's been awhile.
This is an overlay on my friend Roman Riccio's Elton John cover of "Your Song". He recorded this in his apartment using a high end vocal mic & electric keyboard.
The Bass Settings: Pan @ detent, VTC @ full up, Bass preamp - bass flat & treble @ 20% boost.
Used a Great River ME-1NV preamp & dbx160a comp & recorded the mix direct on an Olympus LS10.
The YouTube upload was set for HD so use the 720p HD setting on the right of the progress bar. That'll give you a bonus resolution of the still shot of the Sad' as well.  Grin  if you hit the full screen setting - the bass looks REAL good @ 720p HD.  (this is not a video)
You may like to check out Roman's original video of it while you're there.

I had to say it again: I love it! keep it up, Blair.

Thanks amigo. Posted new link ^

I have marked all mail from @sadowsky.com going to a special folder in Google mail.

As for following this forum, I am using the RSS reader feature on my Mail app on the MacBook.
This way I am following all threads and regularly discover new interesting things.

I'll have to get local help with those things as I have no experience with it. Your post notice email went to spam also. This time Gmail asked me if I wanted those messages sent to the "anti spam team". LOL
We're making advances here I guess. Thanks again.

Blair,

they might be going to the spam filter on your email server. This is happening to me but I don't care much because I'm such an addict to all things Sadowsky that I visit this forum on a regular basis (almost daily  Embarrassed) and them I just click on the "Show unread posts since last visit.".

Thanks Fran. You were correct. There was some email notices in the server spam box.
Is there a way to reverse those spam items so the server won't recognize future notices as such? Must be someway to do that. Anyone?
B.

That depends on your email server configuration.
With gmail, for exemple, you can configure keywords or adresses no to be sent into Spam folders.

I am sure this is possible with other email providers as well

I do have gmail & made the appropriate changes on the server's spam folder. Very easily done.
Your post & Fran's now appear in my inbox. Another lesson learned. Thank you gillento.

great, I also use gmail, should change my config to register the forum messages as safe mail.

Even after changing the last 2 spam emails to "not spam" your post notification email, Fran, still went to spam. It may take awhile for the server to recognize these Sad' forum emails as legitimate.

43  Sadowsky Basses / Sadowsky Basses / Re: Back of the neck finish on: July 18, 2011, 07:57:27 PM
Another question for this thread:

My older RVJJ (1498, I think) has what seems to be a little thicker, lot shinier finish than my newer MV's (late 4000 serials) which have a thinner non gloss, satin type finish.
Is there a good/proper way for me to knock the gloss off my older RV such that it would be more like the satinesque finish on my new ones?

Hi Alan,

Send it to Blair in Toronto! .......

Roger

I'll tell you what - I would charge more than you.  Roll Eyes.   I've got a one-off & PROUD of it.  Grin
Seriously folks - Get yourself the new offering on your next build.
B.
Edit: This work was done on a Friday. I figured since there was already a number of memorable Fridays, I would proudly add to the list:
- Friday the 13th
- Good Friday
- Thank gawd it's Friday
- Black Friday ( thanks S.D.) & oh..the stock market.
- & now my personal fav.- Nitro Friday.

IN ADDITION: I'm going to add ANOTHER VERY special Friday to this list on this coming Friday, July 22nd,2011.
I'm going with a group of friends to my first Steely Dan Concert !!!  I have been a fan since the "Can't Buy A Thrill" album in the early 1970's. Used to play "Pearl Of The Quarter" & "King Of The World" from the "Countdown.." album when I was in a cover band in the mid '70's. LONG time ago & never had the pleasure to see a concert. Love doing overdubs of their stuff. Hope I can snap a pic or two. I have daydreams about getting to talk to Walter B. & I'm WAY too old for that.  Grin
B.
Edit: It's now official, "Friday Of The 'Dan" is now on my list. Walter looks pretty "comfortable" these days. I love the guy. BTW he was playing 3 Sadowsky guitars, all w/ RW bd.

Hi Skactus.
I'm sorry for bad quality photos ... I'll post some better ASAP !!
I have another question: for my ramp what kind of paint do I have to use ?

Thank
Looks like a rewarding exercise.
Might wanna try here. You can do some cropping & other enhancements there as well.
