1  General Category / Sadowsky Forum / Bypass your preamp on: March 27, 2011, 12:36:37 AM
Doing a gig last night and playing a kinda old school funk slapping pbass vibe. I bypassed my preamp on my 24-5 and panned hard to the front pickup. I like! Gonna do it more often. I always felt that the 24-5 is a very versatile bass using it like this is a very nice color on the palette.

4  General Category / Sadowsky Forum / Carrying Instruments on Airplanes AFM Online Petition on: August 28, 2010, 11:18:52 AM
Here is a link to the American Federation of Musicians website to sign an online petition for carrying instruments aboard aircraft.

http://www.afm.org/departments/legislative-office/carrying-instruments-on-airplanes

Musicians constantly face difficulty traveling with their instrument. Although AFM won a commitment from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to allow instruments through security checkpoints, policies for carrying instruments on to airplanes still vary wildly from airline to airline.

The inconsistencies in airline policies make it extremely difficult for musicians to plan their travel and earn a living. Thus AFM fought for language to be included in the Senate version of the FAA Reauthorization Bill (S.1451) that will streamline the airlines’ carry-on policies regarding musical instruments. If this bill passes musicians will be able to carry most musical instruments on board and place them in the overhead compartment or in a seat (if a ticket is purchased).

This bill is currently being debated in Congress and it is critical that all musicians weigh-in to demand that the Senate version (S.1451) of this language be included in the final bill. Please sign our petition below to support streamlining airline carry-on policies, so that travelling with an instrument is safer and more reliable.

Please sign this petition to demand that the language included in S.1451 is included in the final version of the FAA Reauthorization Bill.

I expect Strings to die quicker in the summer from the heat humidity and sweat. But, this summer has been or the last few months has been unusual in my experience. I use Sadowsky Blue standard gauge. The difference between gigging outside and inside this sumer has been dramatic.

I've noticed that this very hot and humid summer on the East Coast has been a string killer when playing outdoor concerts. I'll be lucky to get a set of strings to last two outdoor concerts of 60 to 90 minutes. Versus playing this weekend two 2 hour concerts in a air conditioned club. 2 hours in a highly air conditioned church and a 3 setter in a air conditioned club. My strings are as bright as the first day they were put on. To me this summer has been particularly cruel on string life when playing outdoors. I'm doing a few outdoor gigs on the West Coast soon and I'm curious if there will be a big difference in String life.

I use the 3 bears formula Not too hot Not too cold but just right In the house If you can. I try not to subject them to extreme temp changes.

The thing that roasts my peanuts is the stuff folks carry on and wont gate check taking up space in the overheads that could be used for your instrument.

I played a crazy game with a gate agent in Vegas. Bass fit in overhead coming to Vegas but it they claimed it wont fit coming home same type of aircraft.

I use the Sadowsky Incase Bag for flying which is similar to the Portabag. Fits in overhead great protection and I don't feel too nervous about gate checking on a commuter flight.

Some flight attendants are super nice and want to take of your axe as much as you do.
