As for soundclips there still is the basstasters site including clips that were recorded with a Sadowsky PJ4 and an MV5

I have used a TAB Funkenwerk V71DI and an A Designs RedDi to record my MV5, PJ5 and M5-24 so far.

The sound I liked best was the RedDi!!!

I've noticed that on early Metro basses the bridge plate corners are rounded - like on a NYC bridge. On newer Metros the corners are sharp.
Did early Metros use NYC bridges/hardware?

Hey gillento, can you describe the tone difference between your two sadowskys (reverse PJ vs. 70's JJ)? Which is more aggressive? which is warmer? Or just any comments u could give on the sound would be great :-) (are they the same body and fingerboard combination?)

The UV5 (70's JJ) is ash/morado and the PJ5 is alder/brazilian RW.
So the PJ is much warmer, due to woods and PUs (humcancelling) I suppose whereas the UV is far more aggressive (having SCs).
The UV5 (although having a morado board) seems even snappier than my maple boarded MV5.

Note: the J on the PJ is a bit closer to the bridge than on standard 60's placement on my MV5

As the subject says...curious about which pickup combination has a stronger midrange presence between a Sadowsky Reverse PJ (or the normal PJ even) and one with Nordy big singles, all other elements being equal (same body, fingerboard etc). Asking mainly because I may not get a chance to visit the shop to try different basses out, and I guess i'm working under the mindset of "I'd rather have a good amount mids to cut through, which i can dial back with the amp if need be, than not have as much and try to add later on with the amp". Any thoughts?

I was having a nice GTG last night with a bassplaying (and gear collecting) friend of mine.

We discussed bass and amp use.
Up came the subject of tube amp use over short lapses of time.

Is it a bad isea to run a tube amp only short rehearsals?

I am running my SA200 about every 2 weeks for 2-3 hours?

Is this decreasing tube life, damaging the condensers or trafos?

I just compared my brand new UV 5 string (ash/morado) to my older MV5 #M416 (ash/maple).
Both have the same Sadowsky single coils, new strings (Sadowsky Blue Steels) and I made sure, the distance between the PUs and the strings was the same on both basses.

Experience would lead me to experience a more lively, crisper sound from the MV (being an ash/maple bass).
But the opposite is true: the UV is a bit louder and snappier in all PU positions....

Could this be due to the UV's body being bigger?

edit: I measured the neck and found out that the UV's neck is 2mm broader at the nut than the MV5.
I thought, all the Metros had the same neck dims.

Does anyone know more about this?

No sence subjecting them to the elements if they dont have too. I have to do little to no
adjustments with the climate change with this practice. IME.
